April 17, 2008
Huntsville, AL - Republican candidate for Congress, Cheryl Baswell Guthrie announced today the release of her first radio ads of the campaign cycle - the first of any candidate in the campaign for the Republican nomination in Alabama's 5th congressional district.
The ads, which began running today on radio district-wide, introduce Cheryl's vision for change in Alabama's 5th congressional district which distinctly sets her apart from the rest of the field of typical politicians.
"We need to shake things up in Washington," said Baswell Guthrie. "I'll fight for the conservative principles I know Alabama needs, and I'm proud to say that I?ll bring a fresh perspective to this process that other candidates simply cannot bring."
Transcripts of the ads are below. The full audio clips are available online at Cheryl's website, www.baswellguthrieforcongress.com.
"Grandpa"
(Anncr) Cheryl Baswell Guthrie, Republican candidate for congress. (CBG) When my grandfather served in Congress in the 1950's, things were different. For one thing, congress worked a lot better. It seems these days congress barely works at all. Too many Republicans spend like liberal Democrats, and liberal Democrats spend like there's no tomorrow -- literally. And now that they're in charge of Congress, they've proposed new tax hikes to pay for all that spending. This year we have the chance to gain a fresh perspective in Congress. I'm Cheryl Baswell Guthrie. I'm a conservative who will fight to return our party to the principles Republicans are supposed to stand for. Lower taxes, less waste, and a lot more accountability. (Anncr) Cheryl Baswell Guthrie, the conservative change Congress needs. (CBG): Join me, Cheryl Baswell Guthrie, and let's shake things up together. This is Cheryl Baswell Guthrie and I approved this message.
"Values"
(Anncr) Cheryl Baswell Guthrie, Republican candidate for congress. (CBG) A lot of politicians talk about change. But what kind of change? I think we should start by considering how the fathers of our country did it. Does anyone think they would have supported abortion? Or created a tax code that penalizes families? Our founders governed with honesty, innovation, faith and self sacrifice. They put future generations first. And they put their own self interests aside. That's not the way Congress works today. Most politicians now are more concerned about their own re-election than the next generation. It's time we made a new start. And governed more like those men of Christian faith and moral strength who founded this nation. Join me, Cheryl Baswell Guthrie, and let's shake things up together. (Anncr) Cheryl Baswell Guthrie - the conservative change Congress needs. (CBG): This is Cheryl Baswell Guthrie and I approved this message.
