Cheryl Baswell Guthrie Announces Candidacy

Huntsville, AL -- Cheryl Baswell Guthrie announced Monday that she has filed to be a Republican candidate for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District. Baswell Guthrie, an attorney from Huntsville, stated that it is past time for this seat to be held by a conservative Republican, like herself, "We need to restore confidence in our government and elect officials who have integrity and honesty. This country is also ready for change and I believe that I can effectively represent Alabama’s Tennessee Valley in helping steer this country back to greatness," she stated. "We need to win and end the war in Iraq. We need a Congress that will protect our nation from not only terrorism, but also the burden of illegal immigration across our borders. I plan take our Tennessee Valley values to Washington!", Baswell Guthrie said. Baswell Guthrie also announced that she will loan the campaign up to $100,000 to allow her campaign to be fully operational from day one. She also hired a number of prominent Republican consultants including Tony Marsh and Brandon Moody of Marsh Copsey + Associates as media consultants, Chris Wilson and Tyler Harber of Wilson Research Strategies as pollster and general consultant, and Joe Sanders of Master Image as mail and phone consultant. Mrs. Baswell Guthrie was the Republican nominee for the Alabama Senate in 2006, is married and a mother of one son. With roots deep in the 5th District, her father was an engineer with the US Missile Defense Command, and her mother, Grace DeGraffenried Baswell, taught school for over 20 years in Madison County.
